After 17 long years of waiting, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have finally done it — they are the champions of the IPL. In a season filled with thrilling matches, high drama, and unforgettable moments, RCB’s triumph has brought joy to their loyal fans and marked a historic chapter in the tournament’s history. This IPL season was not just about one team’s victory; it was a record-breaking spectacle with breathtaking performances, nail-biting finishes, and non-stop entertainment from start to finish.

Here are some of the major records that were broken in the 18th edition of the IPL

 Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player to debut in the IPL at just 14 years and 23 days. He went on to create history by smashing a 31-ball century against Gujarat Titans — the fastest ever by an Indian in IPL history. His record-breaking knock announced his arrival in style and made him one of the standout stories of the season. He also went out to become the youngest centurion in IPL history at the age of 14 years and 31 days.

 Record-Breaking Knock

Abhishek Sharma etched his name in the IPL record books by scoring a sensational 141 runs off just 55 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Punjab Kings on April 12 in Hyderabad. This became the highest individual score by an Indian batter in IPL history.

 At just 23 years, 7 months, and 19 days, Sai Sudharsan made history by becoming the youngest player ever to win the Orange Cap in the IPL. Representing Gujarat Titans, he scored a remarkable 759 runs in 15 matches, combining consistency with flair throughout the season.

 Suryakumar Yadav Sets New Benchmarks for Middle-Order Batters

Suryakumar Yadav had a phenomenal IPL 2025 season, scoring 717 runs in 16 matches for Mumbai Indians, becoming the first non-opener in IPL history to score 700+ runs in a single season. Batting predominantly in the middle order, Surya redefined consistency and impact. He also became the first player ever to score 25 or more runs in every innings of a season, highlighting his unmatched reliability and class under pressure.

 IPL 2025 Sets New Record for Most Runs and Boundaries in a Season

IPL 2025 turned out to be the most explosive season in the tournament’s history, with a record-breaking total of 26,381 runs scored across 74 matches by 10 teams — the highest tally in any IPL season to date. Batters were in top gear throughout, smashing 2,245 fours and 1,294 sixes, while teams posted a staggering 52 scores of 200 or more. The season truly redefined high-scoring cricket and set a new standard for entertainment.

 Unknown Territory for Rashid Khan

Most Sixes Conceded in a Season

In a surprising twist, Rashid Khan, known for his tight and economical bowling, found himself in unfamiliar territory during IPL 2025. He was hit for 33 sixes in 15 matches, setting an unwanted record for the most sixes conceded by a bowler in a single IPL season. Despite flashes of brilliance, even the best can face tough seasons — and this one was a rare off-year for the Afghan spin maestro.

 Hardik Pandya became the first captain in IPL history to claim a five-wicket haul, achieving the feat during Mumbai Indians’ fourth league match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on April 4. Leading from the front, Hardik’s all-round brilliance gave MI a crucial edge and marked a historic milestone in the tournament.

This IPL season was defined by the brilliance and consistency of two standout teams who rightfully
earned their place in the final. Their dominance on the field was matched by the incredible performances of their players, many of whom shattered long-standing records. Let’s take a closer look at some of the key milestones and achievements from the stars of these two powerhouse sides.

 Shreyas Iyer creates Captaincy milestones

Shreyas Iyer etched his name into IPL history by becoming the first captain to lead three different teams to the IPL final. Adding to this remarkable feat, he also became the first captain to reach back-to-back finals with two different franchises, showcasing his leadership consistency and tactical acumen across teams. His journey stands as a testament to his ability to inspire and lead sides to the grandest stage.

 Priyansh Arya Shines Bright in Debut Season

Priyansh Arya made an impressive mark in his maiden IPL season, scoring 475 runs in 17 matches, the most ever by an uncapped Indian batter in their debut IPL season. Displaying composure, flair, and consistency, his performances were a major boost for his team and signaled the arrival of a promising young talent on the big stage.

 Punjab Kings etched their name in the record books by becoming the first team in IPL history to successfully chase a 200+ target against Mumbai Indians in a T20 match.

 RCB Sets Record with Perfect Away Record: Royal Challengers Bengaluru created history in IPL 2025 by becoming the first team to win all seven away league matches in a single season.

Their 100% win record on the road showcased their adaptability, resilience, and all-round dominance, playing a crucial role in their journey to a long-awaited title triumph.

 Virat Kohli Creates History

Virat Kohli became the first player in IPL history to hit 1000 boundaries, reaching the milestone during RCB’s clash against Delhi Capitals in Bengaluru on April 10, 2025. His ability to find gaps and build innings with precision continues to set him apart in the league.

 King of Consistency

Most 50s and 50+ Scores in IPL

Kohli also extended his lead at the top by recording the most half-centuries (63) and the most 50+ scores (71) in IPL history.

His unmatched consistency over the years remains a cornerstone of RCB’s success and a benchmark for T20 batting. Punjab Kings once again fell just short, losing by a narrow margin that echoed the heartbreak they faced when they first had a shot at the title back in 2014. While the ultimate prize eluded them, the team reignited the hopes of their fans with a high-quality brand of cricket throughout the season. In a game where only one team can emerge victorious, Punjab found themselves on the wrong side this time. But with a fresh squad full of young talent and immense potential, they have every reason to be proud of their effort. This season has laid a strong foundation, and the future looks bright for Punjab Kings as they continue their journey towards glory.

We often hear that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, that hard work never goes unnoticed, and that success may be delayed but is never denied when we stay true to our basics.

June 4’s final game was the perfect example of all these truths coming to life, as Royal Challengers Bangalore lifted their maiden IPL trophy in their 18th attempt. After years of heartbreaks, near misses, and moments of despair, this victory shines like a beacon of hope and joy for their passionate fan base and cricketing legends alike. Seeing Virat Kohli finally hold the coveted trophy—after dedicating 18 years of relentless effort and unwavering commitment—was a deeply emotional moment, not just for him but for every cricket fan who has believed in this team through thick and thin.

This triumph was truly a long-awaited celebration that touched the hearts of millions.
