England’s limited overs tour of South Africa next summer faces uncertainty amid a scheduling clash with the SA20.

England are set to tour for a full series of three Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The Test leg, scheduled from mid December to 7 January, is close to final confirmation.

The limited overs segment that follows has become complicated by a direct overlap with the SA20, which runs from 9 January to 14 February.

The white ball matches are viewed as preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which South Africa will co host. The series would offer both teams match time in local conditions ahead of that tournament.

The SA20 now holds a fixed place in the South African calendar. South Africa’s leading players are contracted to franchise teams and there is no system in place to release them for international duty during the competition window. Cricket South Africa has explored possible solutions.

As according to The Guardian, Cricket South Africa proposed splitting the tour and staging the limited overs matches in February after the SA20 ends.

The England and Wales Cricket Board rejected that option, with England already scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a two Test series in that period.
