Where it stands at the moment, it seems if there’s a team that’s constantly creating the buzz in the IVPL 2024, then it is the VVIP Uttar Pradesh and how!
Continuing their impressive victory from the first match of the IVPL 2024, VVIP Uttar Pradesh secured another resounding win in the second match against Red Carpet Delhi, proving their potential to achieve great success in the tournament and reach new heights.
Anshul Kapur and Pawan Negi both scored half-centuries, setting the stage for a substantial total for the UP team. Skipper Suresh Raina, who captured everyone’s attention during the match, contributed by scoring 34 runs from 21 deliveries, proving that the renowned Mr IPL still has his skills intact.
The first-ever veteran cricket league in the beating heart of Uttar Pradesh is receiving a positive reception, with a significant turnout witnessed on Sunday at the Saheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.
This bodes well for the league’s future and upcoming seasons.
VVIP batting Powerhouse
Put in to bat first VVIP Uttar Pradesh made an impressive start by scoring 38 runs in just three overs. Bhanu Seth played a quick innings, smashing 31 runs off 11 balls. Anshul Kapoor and Pawan Negi continued the momentum, leading the team to a total of 130 runs within 13 overs.
In the allotted 20 overs, VVIP Uttar Pradesh achieved a score of 220/3 and successfully limited Red Carpet Delhi to 191/9. Anshul Kapoor made 63 runs in just 38 balls, while Pawan Negi hit an impressive 69 runs in 43 deliveries.
Suresh Raina Cynosure of all eyes
After Anshul Kapoor was dismissed, skipper Raina stepped onto the crease, and in the process, was greeted by enthusiastic cheers from fans eager to witness the fames left-hander in action. Raina’s quick innings of 34 runs off 21 balls significantly contributed to VVIP Uttar Pradesh’s impressive total giving them the added impetus particularly toward the end overs.
Gunaratne’s valiance goes in vain
In pursuit of 221 runs, Red Carpet Delhi faced a rough beginning with the early dismissals of Richard Levi and skipper Herschelle Gibbs. However, Asela Gunaratne’s impressive knock of 106 off 55 balls injected some hope into their innings.
When Nurse and Gunaratne showcased their explosive batting skills, VVIP Uttar Pradesh approached the situation cautiously. Despite the imposing total on the scoreboard, they remained composed knowing that opponent batsmen might risk losing their wickets while trying to keep up with the high run rate.
Ashley Nurse also contributed with a rapid 32 off just 16 deliveries, but unfortunately, their efforts fell short in carrying Red Carpet Delhi to victory.
With this win, the high-profile team from VVIP Uttar Pradesh continues its winning streak and gears up for a match against Telangana Tigers that’s scheduled to begin shortly on Monday, February 26. Meanwhile, Red Carpet Delhi are determined to make a comeback as they face off against Mumbai Champions on Tuesday.
