The Rajasthan Royals are one of the elite teams in the IPL, who have had the greatest set of players since the inception of the Indian Premier League. The late legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne was the real ‘Royal’ of the team back in 2008 and led the team to win their maiden IPL title in the inaugural season of the league.

While there’s always a fuss about fast bowlers in the IPL, the Royals traded the Indian seamer Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants for Devdutt Padikkal, which has proven to be the most rewarding for the Rajasthan teams, given the way he has improved his lengths.

Since the 2008 edition, Rajasthan have not been able to win another title and are still on a hunt for their second title. With a few changes in the squad for the IPL 2024, the Royals managed to make their team quite stronger. With the addition of Avesh Khan, the spot that the Royals had to fill with an overseas seamer, can now be utilised in the batting department.

How can Avesh Khan tune RR’s way in this edition of the IPL?

The 27-year-old with 6’ 2” height, Avesh Khan from Madhya Pradesh has been doing wonders with his fast-bowling skills in the Indian Premier League. He took the Delhi Capitals to the qualifiers in the 2021 season leading the pace attack, scalping 24 wickets in 16 games and was the second-highest wicket-taker.

His heroics with the ball landed him a 10-crore deal with the Lucknow Super Giants for their inaugural season, where he did not upset the team and picked up 18 wickets helping the team reach the qualifiers in their first-ever IPL season.

Whether it’s his pace, bounce and lengths, Avesh Khan has been a terrific bowler for every team he has played for. Even though he got lost for a while and was going for too many runs, he has made a stellar comeback but this time in the colours of the Rajasthan Royals.

His pace has been quite advantageous for the batters, which is the reason he could not make a huge impact while playing for India. But now he believes he has worked hard and real hard to achieve his goals.

Coming into the Royals family, where Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma are known to dismantle any batting line-up, Avesh worked closely with them, especially with Sandeep, who has been amazing in the death overs with his slower ones and the yorkers. On the other hand, who could be a better option than the Kiwi superstar Trent Boult to assist Avesh to bowl in the initial stages of the game?

The first two matches were a display of sheer accuracy and hard work that Avesh Khan has put in to be effective enough in this edition of the IPL.

Against LSG, Avesh bowled three overs and gave just 21 runs, helping his team defend the total comprehensively. Nicholas Pooran, who is known to destroy the best bowlers in the world was batting on 62 runs when came to bowl the 20th over and with Pooran on the strike on the first ball with 27 needed, Avesh was under pressure. Two surprising yorkers were bowled which baffled Pooran, who could not do anything but wonder how he could have hit that one. Despite two extras, Avesh ended up giving just six runs, helping his team win the game by 20 runs.

Coming onto the second game, Delhi needed 17 off the last over and yet again, Sanju Samson trusted Avesh Khan. Tristan Stubbs, who is known for his monstrous hitting skills, was unbeaten at 42 off just 21 deliveries and if anyone could have pulled off the chase, it was Stubbs. But it turned out that even the batter who already smashed three sixes and a couple of boundaries had no answer to Avesh Khan’s pinpoint yorkers. Yet again, Avesh Khan came out on top.

On being asked how he has been working on himself that he could pull off those yorkers despite being under immense pressure, Avesh shared that he has worked really hard and got to learn a lot from Sandeep Sharma and Trent Boult, who has been doing this for a long time now.

The Rajasthan Royals are blessed with perfect bowling combinations for the overs upfront and even at the death, and we have seen the best teams with superb bowling lineups winning the trophies. If everything goes the way it is going now, the trade of Avesh Khan would turn into nothing but glory for the Royals.

With 12 league games left and the T20 World Cup 2024 round the corner, Avesh would look to make the most of these 12 games and register his name for a ticket to the United States and represent the Indian team at the greatest level.
