While we all were packing our school bags and watching cartoons with unabashed passion, it seems that there was one particular young boy for whom Cricket wasn’t the big thing; but the thing that signified life itself. Today, this is the very boy about whom an entire cricket-crazy world is going ga-ga and with much adoration. So that leaves us with the one pertinent question.
And it’s that who is this boy called Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has been doing a lot more than one does at this tender age and has thus, been rewarded with an IPL contract, thanks to which he’s become the youngest ever to be bought in the IPL history?
The left-handed batter from Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, rose to popularity when he made his Ranji Debut at the age of just 12, breaking the record of Yuvraj Singh. What did the Youngster do to caught everyone’s attention?
Not a long ago, Suryavanshi scored a brilliant hundred while playing for India U19 against Australia U19 in a Test match.
Prior to making his Ranji Debut, he hammered down almost 400 hundred runs in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in just five games, which eventually helped him get into the Ranji team. Following the steps of Brian Lara and idolising him, Vaibhav has been in the news for a while now due to his impressive achievements at such a young age.
Despite some speculations around his age not being true, he is still quite young to get an IPL contract. Opening the innings for the India U19 team, the southpaw smashed a 62-ball hundred in the last October and was called in at the trials at the Rajasthan Royals camp.
Given the situation to score 17 runs in an over, Suryavanshi did not hesitate to hammer three sixes and impressing the staff, which explains why Rajasthan Royals were eager to buy him at the Auctions and actually bought him for a whopping sum of 1.1 crores in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In a cold bid war against Delhi Capitals, who were yet again raising their paddles, spoiling everyone’s plans, but Rajasthan did not want to let the young gun go and finally spent 1.1 crores for the 13 year old, which also makes him the youngest player to be sold for this whopping price.
Suryavanshi will soon be seen in the Indian colours, representing the Indian U19 team in the Asia Cup in the opening game against Pakistan, which will be a huge platform for him to showcase his skillset and put up a show.
There have been a lot of youngsters coming and rising to popularity with their heroics in the local or domestic games, who have been bought by the IPL franchises, so it would be fascinating to see players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Vansh Bedi, Ayush Mathare and many more uncapped players playing against the world’s best players.
